Spend more time around people. If you want to make friends, you first need to put yourself out there to meet people.

Join a sports team or a club with people who have common interests. If you like playing football, join a sports team. If you like playing the piano, singing or dancing, try joining a band or a music club. There you can meet many others who have the same hobbies.

Talk to people. You can talk to anybody: the seller at the video store, the person sitting next to you on the bus, or the person in front of you in the lunch line.

★. Listen carefully to what people say, remember (记得) their names, their likes and dislikes, ask questions about their interests and just take the time to learn more about them.

Be a good friend. Once you start spending time with friends, remember what you have to do. Go to some activities together, remember their birthdays and so on. Then you will be good friends forever.

On May 22, 2021, the world lost a great scientist. Yuan Longping, the “Father of Hybrid Rice”, died in Hunan, China. Hearing this news, people all over the world were greatly sad.

Yuan was born on September 7, 1930 in Beijing. He came up with the idea of hybrid rice in 1960s. After that, he tried his best to study a new kind of hybrid rice. In 1964, he found a natural hybrid rice plant. The plant is better. So he began to study this kind of rice.

Yuan met lots of problems, but he didn’t give up. Finally, in 1973, he successfully studied a new kind of long-grained hybrid rice. The next year, he studied another kind of hybrid rice with 20％ higher yields (产量). He then kept on working hard at his study. As we all know, few plants can live in the desert (沙漠). But Yuan and his team successfully planted hybrid rice in the Dubai desert.

On June 27, 2019, Yuan gave an English talk at the first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo. He said that China was studying super hybrid rice and he wanted to help other countries with the problem of food shortage (短缺). Now, more than forty countries in the world are planting hybrid rice. Thanks to Yuan Longping, people in China and in most parts of the world won’t be hungry any more. We should always remember this great scientist.
